About Kevin Dykes

Kevin Dykes
My name is Kevin Dykes and I have been managing and implementing interactive projects, web community and social media marketing since 1995.
Some people call me a Social Media Consultant, others call me a Content Marketing strategy guy. I actually see myself with a wider footprint than either of those terms describe.
I’m a bit of a geek, but just enough to be dangerous. I’m a Business Strategist and New Marketing practitioner. I’m NOT a freshly minted MBA, nor a wet-behind-the-ears early 20-something. I’m a business guy, a career entrepreneur who has raised venture capital, helped build and sell a patented product- based company and worked with companies of all size and shape grow into something fantastic. I’ve also had my a$# handed to me a few times - so I know what it means to take a big hit, lose lots of my own money - and continue fighting forward!
I’ve got some gray hairs, but I live and breathe the continuing business and social revolution that the web has brought to our lives. This blog is my way to analzye and foster discussion around my beliefs on ‘New Marketing’. I’m not the first to coin the term, but I think it is the best description of the massive convergence in marketing today. I’ll be writing about Content Marketing, Social Media and new-school digital PR.

If you’re looking for my background CliffsNotes™, here you go:
- I’ve been involved in developing and managing web communities since 1996, beginning as Director of Strategy and Co- Founder with USCreative.com.
- I understand the challenges of keeping a set of constituents engaged and involved, especially now in the world of web 2.0 approaches to community/social networks.
- I’ve been preaching the use of Blogs and Audio/Video podcasting as a medium for Content Marketing for several years.
- I’m a fanatic supporter of the power of WordPress as a publishing platform, a community platform with plugins like IntenseDebate and for its search engine indexing goodness
- I created a methodology called the Content Synergy Method as a starting point on how to create content for organizations.
- I understand how to both create buy-in from the top-down leadership and to engage the key team members to bring this type of program from the bottom up. This approach allows everyone to meet in the middle where the organization can review and apply business rules to the approaches.
- I’ve done deep research on the best ways to integrate traditional email marketing, RSS and blog marketing, and base action plans on online metrics
